Gem/Kir, a Rad/Rem/Gem/Kir (RGK) GTPases family member, is a small GTP-binding protein involved in the regulation (inhibition) of high voltage-activated (HVA) Ca²⁺ channels, such as the P/Q-Type Ca²⁺ channels, that modulate neural, endocrine and muscle functions.

应用

Anti-GEM polyclonal antibody is used to tag Gem/Kir GTPase proteins for detection and quantitation by Western blotting and in cells and tissues by immunohistochemical (IHC) techniques. It is used as a probe to study the possible roles of Gem/Kir as inhibitors of high voltage-activated (HVA) Ca²⁺ channels within neural, endocrine and muscle tissues.

It is associated with the inner face of the plasma membrane and could play a role as a regulatory protein in receptor-mediated signal transduction.The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the RAD/GEM family of GTP-binding proteins. Alternative splicing occurs at this locus and two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
