生化/生理作用
GJE1 also known as connexin 23 is a gap junction protein that belongs to the connexin family. It is not expressed in humans and differs from other gap junction proteins as it does not form functional gap junctions but causes release of ATP from the cells. Mutation in GJE1 gene result in developmental defects in the lens in mice.
