IRX1 codes for a protein that belongs to the Iroquois family. It functions as a tumor suppressor in gastric carcinoma and is frequently hypermethylated in HPV-infected head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Studies have revealed that IRX1 disruption facilitates osmotic stress and drought tolerance in Arabidopsis.
