Afadin- and α-actinin-binding protein is encoded by the SSX2IP gene in humans. The gene encodes a protein that binds to the cancer-testis antigen Synovial Sarcoma X breakpoint 2 protein. It is associated with the cytoplasmic tail of nectin which is a Ca²⁺-independent immunoglobulin-like cell-cell adhesion molecule.

生化/生理作用

Afadin- and α-actinin-binding protein localizes at cell-cell adherens junctions (AJs). It acts as novel centrosome maturation factor and also as a maintenance factor during the onset of vertebrate development. It preserves centrosome integrity and mitosis during the rapid cleavage division of blastomeres in somatic cells. SSX2IP also promotes the development and metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma and contributes to the drug resistance of hepatoma cells.
