The gene Transmembrane channel-like 2 (TMC2) is mapped to human chromosome 20p13. TMC2 is a transmembrane protein and is present in the inner ear. It is present at the site of hair cell mechanotransduction and localizes in cochlea, particularly stereocilia tips.

Transmembrane channel-like 2 (TMC2) is present in the inner ear along with another member TMC1. TMC1 and 2 convert mechanical information into electric signals and mediate sensory transduction in auditory and vestibular hair cells.
